I woke up this morning with the radio alarm blaring, and Macy biting me, rolled over and looked at the time and thought "shit, fucking late again". Got up, did the bare necessities in order to leave the house clothed and reasonably presentable, and headed out. The news was on the radio while I was brushing my teeth, so by the time I finished that and got dressed, i figured it was about 8:15 when I left the house.

Walked up the street and a bus came zooming past as I got to the corner, I managed to run-walk to the stop in time to catch it... stopped at the bakery and got a pork roll for my lunch today, watching the minute hand tick around to 25 past thinking "well shit I'm definitely going to be late" ... the train was pulling in as I got to the station so I did the dash down the stairs and made it. Sat down and opened my book and shut the rest of the world off. Around Erskineville I looked up from my book and thought two things "gosh the train is full for this time of the morning" and "I should ring the potplant and let him know I'm running a bit late". So I dug my phone out, and noticed the time on the screensaver... 7:57am.

Not running late. Running VERY EARLY. I left home a bit after 7am... I walked into work at 8:15am... I start at 9am. I fail completely at time.

I am SO taking an early mark tonight.

Caster Semenya has been told that she can keep the gold medal she won at the World Championships. No word yet on whether she will be allowed to continue competing in women's events, but it's good to hear that she's not being stripped of her medal at least.

In vaguely related news, tomorrow is International Transgender Day of Remembrance. The Transgender Day of Remembrance is now in its eleventh year, and it’s a day to remember those who have been killed as a result of anti-transgender hatred or prejudice.

I'll be lighting candles.
OMG, this sounds like it was written about me!

Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome

For as long as I can remember I have found it near impossible to go to sleep at a "regular" time, and get up at a "regular" time... I function soooo much better if I can go to sleep about 2 in the morning and wake up about 10 or 11... It's an early night for me usually if I am in bed by midnight... and I struggle in the mornings to wake up and get up on time, and am chronically late for things in the mornings, and have been since my teens. I was always late for school, I'm frequently late for work, my last job they changed my starting time because I was literally incapable of getting there at 8am, I just could not wake up that early.

When I'm on holidays and have the opportunity to sleep to my own schedule, I reliably will go to sleep about 2 or 3am, and wake up naturally at about 10am, and don't feel constantly tired.
