I am so ridiculously exhausted... this week at work, while lovely in the sense that the potplant is not here, has been insanely busy. GP's going on holidays and shunting their patients on to us, hospitals booting people out "in time for christmas", family members having Nanna come to stay, dramatic and ghastly rise in domestic violence, significant rise in people with suicidal ideation, the Aboriginal Medical Service's roof kind of fell in so they've closed for emergency repairs and shunted all the patients that fall on our side of the border to us... my bum hit my office chair at 9:05am today, and the first time it left it was 3:45pm when I caved to the bladder pressure and screaming inside my head and went to pee and have a smoke and 10 minutes away from the phone ...

As I was returning to the office from my "lunch" break, other staff were starting to head home... joy... also, I walked past a drunk/homeless man who said to me "you look like someone who eats on a regular basis" ... I replied "you look like someone who drinks on a regular basis" ... he laughed and wished me merry christmas.

Small things, from unexpected corners, make me smile :)

Gotta love that "get people home in time for giftmas" thing ... which actually means "minimise the number of people on the wards so we might actually have half a chance at managing with the skeleton staff we're prepared to pay for over the public holidays"

Yeah, that's it exactly... unfortunately we're also on skeleton staff so I get to tell every new referral that we can't guarantee a visit before 4th Jan... referrers don't like me much at this time of year!

I feel kinda bad about your work situation. There I was, sitting in my little room in the Public, with my biggest worry being whether when our registrar said, "Can you get this record from Penrith Hospital?", she meant Nepean or not. It's tough over there. :P
