May. 13th, 2009 03:46 pmi have ranty pants on today and nothing to rant about... this is very annoying!
**edit** I will be ranting about this when I have more time!! RARH!
maybe I'm just grumpy... today has been made up of various bits of fail and arse and very little win anywhere...
Went to the Dungeon Safety 101 workshop with Bob Moore presenting last night, was good, I generally like Bob's presenting style and there's no doubting he has an extensive amount of experience and knowledge to draw on... but there were a few times last night that he got off on quite long tangents that had little to do with safety and I found myself sitting there, interested in what he was saying, but wondering what it had to do with safety and wondering if other people were as equally bemused as I...
Anyhow, on the subject of SLPA, can anyone tell me why SLPA doesn't run play parties?

Public liability
Council rules re sex on premises stuff, it would have to be at a proper sex on prem venue like arrows...
and really Its my thoughts that the membership of the organisation is too diverse to have a play party - Rox for instance as had bad experiences with het guys that may or not be members now.

Date: 2009-05-13 01:41 pm (UTC)As for the bad experience Rox had and diverse membership, that really comes down to clearly publishing rules/standards of behaviour and having good DMs on duty for people to go to if there's a problem.

Date: 2009-05-14 11:43 pm (UTC)I would play at a party where there are people I don't like, or whose behaviour annoys/bothers me. I have and I do. I don't have to play with them, I don't have to talk to them, I don't even have to acknowledge their presence, and I am quite capable of asking someone to step away from a scene I'm doing (if topping) or trusting whomever I'm bottoming for to look after me similarly. I'm also yet to attend ANY party where there aren't at least several different play areas/rooms, and sufficient space to enable not having to be near someone at all. And like I said before, a well organised party will have intelligent responsible DM's to ensure that people play nasty in only the nicest ways, and a clear code of conduct/set of rules supplied at the time someone RSVPs and at the door, and possibly even at one or two points around the party.
I don't see why I should stay away and disengage from something I enjoy because someone whose personality or behaviour is unpleasant may be there. All that does is let the assholes win, and you know I'm not a fan of that.
