Homophobia = bad, Kissing = good!

quiregrrlThis landed in my email box this morning, and I emailed Annaliese at ACON to verify it's accuracy, but haven't had a reply yet... assuming it's correct, anyone up for a snog on Friday evening??

Plan is- walk in, kiss, walk out.
A couple of people are happy to come to a kiss-in (yay!) on Friday Oct 14th at 6pm at the Courthouse Hotel. We NEED more than a couple of folks. A big QUEER gang would be great and people with cameras &/or media as Annaliese suggested is very important...Let's clog the place and smooch away.
Please send this call for 'kissing action' far and wide....let's get those rainbow lips and tongues ready. THE COURTHOUSE HOTEL IS ON TAYLOR SQUARE, BASICALLY THE CORNER OF OXFORD & BOURKE STREETS

WHY IT'S HAPPENING!!!
Homophobia happening at Courthouse Hotel at Taylor Square (Oxford St) not sure how many people read SX but last week there was a story about a hugely homophobic incident occurring at the courthouse hotel.
Basically a guy was there on a date with another guy. One guy leant in to kiss the other and was set upon by three burly bouncers who physically picked him up and threw him out of the venue. When the guy objected to being thrown out the reply to his anger was a simple response "If you want to pash poofs you can go to ARQ or the oxford. We don't want any of that stuff here."
I have also been told there have been incidents at this same hotel previously. Once 2 men walking past the courthouse began kissing...a security gaurd filled a bucket with water and threw it over them.
ACON's anti-violence project was notified and have been in consultation with management and staff of the courthouse urging them to get some training on the impacts of homophobia and how to stop it. No luck.
So me thinks it's about time community took some action. Time for a good old kiss in..... unless someone else has a better more original idea?
I think considering that both acts of homophobia stemmed from kisses makes a kiss in definitely relevant though. Kiss ins are also simple. we go there we clog the place. we kiss. we don't make any money for them by buying drinks. we get some media. then we all go out and drink somewhere that is not homophobic.....and we can continue to kiss if need be.
No need to twist my arm.

Date: 2005-10-11 06:26 am (UTC)And yeah, two girls snogging is quite often appealing to homophobic straight men, but they are also used to the two girls snogging being plasticated "straight" looking chicks on porn videos who kiss and then look invitingly at the camera (implication being that they are kissing for the benefit of the viewer, and ultimately want him to join in)... different story to two dykes locking lips and completely ignoring the sad pathetic men... and I think a bunch of dykes snogging at the same time as a bunch of boys snogging will somewhat lessen the appeal for the mouth-breathers...
Yay, kissing for fun and protest!!! :o)
